The island · A place of remembrance

A visit led by respect

Baliceaux, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, is where the Garifuna people were imprisoned before exile in 1797, and it remains a place of remembrance and pilgrimage. Any visit is a cultural undertaking, not a beach stop. The excursion would be shaped and led with Garifuna cultural leadership, with time for interpretation, reflection and quiet, and nothing that treats the island as a backdrop.

The proposed date and capacity below are working figures for planning. They are confirmed with the community, local authorities and boat operators closer to the week, and the visit may be withdrawn at any time if conditions are not met.

The conditions

Before a place is confirmed

The visit exists only if it can be done properly. Each of the following must hold before any guest steps ashore.

  • The visit proceeds only with Garifuna cultural leadership and community agreement.
  • Local landing permissions, sea state and safety conditions must allow the crossing.
  • The site is a place of remembrance: it is visited quietly, with respect, not as entertainment.
  • Requesting a place is not a reservation. Confirmed guests will be contacted directly before any payment is taken.
